Site photos: capture, organise, and mark up
Capture the site photos a residential project needs, mark up cable runs and details on the spot, and let homeowners upload the photos you ask for.
Pictures is Reonic's site-photo gallery for residential projects. You define a set of photo requirements once (Roof, Meter cabinet, Distribution cabinet, and so on), field workers shoot those photos against each requirement on the Mobile App, and homeowners can upload the photos you request from their own phone. Captured photos can be annotated directly: instead of describing things in text, you draw cable runs, add arrows, set tags, or crop the relevant part of the image.

Before you start
- The automatic photo-requirement cards are a residential-projects feature. Commercial projects don't get the auto-generated requirement set, but you can still request and store images on them through the project's Files area.
- The Mobile App must be installed and signed in, with camera permission granted.
- For the requirement cards to appear, your admin has to have defined the photo requirements (see Define the photo requirements below).
- In the Portal, the photo requirements and their progress live in the project's Files area. On the Mobile App, they're on the project's Images screen.
Capture photos on the Mobile App
- Open the project on the Mobile App and go to its Images screen.
- You'll see requirement cards in a grid, each with a blurred example photo behind the empty state so you know what to capture.
- Tap a requirement card and choose Take a photo or Upload image.
- Take a photo opens the multi-shot camera: tap the shutter to capture, toggle the flash (on, off, auto), and take up to 20 photos in one session. Tap Done when finished.
- Upload image opens the photo library, where you can pick up to 10 existing photos at a time.
- Photos upload to the project. If you're offline, they queue and sync automatically once you're back online.
Pro tip: Capture every requirement while you're still on site. A blurred example photo shows you exactly which angle each card wants, and finishing them all on site saves a second trip.
Mark up a photo
You can annotate any captured photo without leaving the app.
- Tap a photo thumbnail beneath a requirement card to open the full-screen viewer.
- Tap the pen icon in the top-right to switch into editing.
- At the bottom you'll find three areas:
- Pen (left): colours and stroke widths for arrows, markings, or freehand notes.
- Comments and tags (middle): add tag elements with labels.
- Crop (right): crop the photo to focus on one area.
- Use the undo and redo buttons at the top to revert any single stroke, tag, or crop.
- Tap the checkmark at the top to save. The annotated photo replaces the original in the gallery.
Pro tip: Annotate while you're still on site. Adding a "cable trough runs along here" arrow takes five seconds at the scene. Three days later you'll have forgotten which photo shows what.
Define the photo requirements (admin)
The set of photos a project needs is configured per workspace. You define what field workers must capture for each package type (Solar, storage, wallbox, heating).
- In the Portal, open Settings > File request templates, where your workspace's photo requirements are configured.
- Click New requirement and fill in:
- Name, for example Roof, Meter cabinet, Distribution cabinet.
- Description, a short note shown to the field worker.
- Example image, a reference photo shown blurred behind the empty card. Strongly recommended: it tells field workers exactly what to shoot.
- Available for, the package types this requirement applies to.
- Required for, a subset of the above that drives the completion check and reminders.
- Click Save.
- Drag requirements to reorder them; field workers see the new order on their next sync.
When you edit a requirement later, Reonic keeps the old version for projects that already used it, so changing your photo requirements never disturbs the photos already captured on past projects.
Let the homeowner upload photos
When you need photos a field worker can't take, ask the homeowner to upload them through their project link.
- Open the residential request in the Portal.
- Share the customer's project link with them through your usual channel (email, WhatsApp, SMS).
- The homeowner opens the link on their phone and sees the required photo requirements as cards, each with the example photo and a drop zone.
- They upload the photos. The uploads land on the project, marked as customer-uploaded.
- Once every required photo is in, the project's photo set is complete and the reminder prompt clears.
To track progress, open the project's Files area, where the requirement cards render: each requirement shows whether it's satisfied or still missing, and a Send reminder action emails the customer their link again when photos are outstanding. The homeowner sees only the photos required for their chosen packages, and uploads only against those requirements.
Things to know
- Automatic photo requirements are residential-only. Commercial projects don't auto-generate the requirement set, but you can still request and store images on them through the Files area.
- Photos capture the image itself. Reonic records what was photographed, not the location or capture time, so if you need those on record for compliance or audit purposes, pair the photos with your own field process.
- Up to 200 photos per project. The library picker takes 10 at a time and the camera takes 20 per session; the project total tops out at 200.
- Annotation keeps the original. Each save replaces the previous annotated copy, so there's a single original plus the latest annotated version.
